Seven TeenSHARPies recently completed the ACLU’s Summer Advocacy Institute in Washington DC.
During the program, they heard from speakers including Edward Snowden, advocated on Capitol Hill, met with US Senator Tom Carper of Delaware, and built friendships with outstanding youth from across the country.
The ACLU’s Summer Advocacy Institute brought together a diverse group of students entering their junior and senior years of high school from across the United States to participate in an advanced, firsthand learning experience for the next generation of social justice advocates.
During the intensive 8-day program in Washington D.C., students learned directly from lawyers, lobbyists, community activists, and other experts working to defend the civil rights and liberties critical to a free and open society.
