Programs

TeenSHARP administers two 9-month-long programs for students: College Access Ambassador Training (CAAT) and College Discovery program. Both programs run from late September to early May and are designed as a multi-year commitment.

College Discovery Programserves students who are in grades 6 through 8 and seeks to promote academic excellence, cultivate students’ love for learning, and provide them with early college and career exposure. For more information about this program and the application process, click here. The application is usually released at the end of May and closes in August.

The College Access Ambassador Training works with students who are in grades 9 through 12. The program strengthens students academic success skills and helps them develop a deep understanding of the college admissions and application process. In doing so, the College Access Ambassador Training prepares students to become peer leaders in their communities working to bridge the disparities in college access and increase awareness about college among their peers. Ultimately, the preparation, leadership development, and advising students receive helps our students gain admission to some of the nation’s most selective institutions. Where do TeenSHARP programs take place? 
TeenSHARP programs meet at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ. Rutgers-Camden is located just minutes away from Center City Philadelphia and numerous townships in South Jersey. Many students commute to campus by train (PATCO or Riverline).

What is the cost of the TeenSHARP College Discovery and College Access Ambassador programs?
The participation fee for the 9-month long TeenSHARP College Discovery and College Access Ambassador programs is $350 per student. This includes breakfast refreshments provided during each Saturday session and required books. Parents are responsible for purchasing notebooks, folders, and other required supplies for the child. Financial aid is available to students based on family’s income and IRS exemptions, expressed need and child’s merit. Additionally, TeenSHARP offers a sibling discount of $100 per child off the participation fee for each additional child enrolled in the program (e.g.  a parent with two children selected for the program would pay a registration fee of $500 for the program year).  Families interested in financial aid can indicate this via the program application.

In addition to the two 9-month-long programs, TeenSHARP administers a Saturday-only five-week summer bridge program for middle school, high school, and college students. The “Per Aspera Ad Astra” Summer Bridge program seeks to expose students to rigorous college-level instruction, provide them with an opportunity to network with college faculty and high-achieving professionals, and explore various academic disciplines and topics. For more information about the summer bridge program for middle school students, click here.
